BONDI + BRONTE
China was where we needed to be in 2013, as this was the largest growth country for our business. We packed up a 7 bedroom house in North Bondi virtually over night and gave our two beloved dogs to a close friend to start our new life in China. Knowing we could not be in a new country and be settled without animals around us, I quickly began the search for a new family pet.
Speaking through a translator, as at the time I did not speak one word of Chinese, I was informed that two puppies had been born in a litter on the 21st of November. On the 26th of January 2014 these two little orange balls of fluff arrived at our apartment block, making our house a home. These two little Chinese sisters were yet to be named. So I reached out on Instagram, to my Australian friends, and asked for different suggestions. Knowing that we were going to live in China, lunch and dinner was not a great name. When someone suggested Bondi and Bronte, and as that was something we missed the most about being in China – we knew this was the perfect name for them.
They loved their Shanghainese life and their two hour car trips to and from school everyday. They got used to riding shotgun with the kids, with their heads out the window, breathing in that fresh Chinese air. We lost them out on the highway once, going about 150 km p/hour, luckily they were on the leash and flicked back into the car! That wasn’t their only near death experience. Bondi contracted Parvo after being hospitalised and would have died if it hadn’t been for her quick thinking grandmother flying from Australia to nurse her back to full health.
We never thought that the dogs would live in any other country other than China, however before long we found ourselves back in Sydney, Australia, surrounded by fast cars, awesome people and beaches. Aussie life really suited our girls with their hair being bleached by the sun, our little red heads soon became strawberry blondes. They blossomed in their new environment.
